“I am talking to those who feel entitled” – Actress Jaiye Kuti clarifies her statement on criticizing Veteran Actors for begging online

Nollywood actress, Jaiye Kuti otherwise known as Jayeola Monje, has addressed the heavy backlash she received for lambasting her senior colleagues begging fans for money.

For the past few weeks, veterans like Iya Gbonkan, Lalude, Pariolodo, and Alapinni all came out to seek help from Nigerians over their deteriorating financial status.

Though many Nigerians came to their aid, Actress, Jaiye Kuti felt their behavior was deceitful.

Taking to her Instagram page, Jaiye Kuti slammed the veterans for begging for money online.

The movie star decried the alarming rate at which their cry for help is damaging the image of the Yoruba movie industry.

Jaiye Kuti noted that many of them did not plan for their future. Instead, they spent their youthful earnings on shortlived pleasures.

She, however, claimed that she is not against raising funds for health issues, but she is against tarnishing the image of the Yoruba film industry by crying for basic needs.

The video generated mixed reviews online as many supported the actress for speaking the truth while others condemned her for speaking such about her senior colleagues.

Addressing the backlash, Jaiye Kuti stated that she isn’t stopping ailing veterans from seeking help. However, she is decrying the rate at which many are misusing the opportunity for their selfish gains.

“I don’t just talk anyhow, people don’t understand what I am saying. I read over 500 comments and I am addressing those who misunderstood my message.

I didn’t say we should use social media to help people or that people should come out to ask for help, but my message is for those who want to spoil the industry’s name with begging.

I have also used my social media to seek help for people, and they have sent messages appreciating me.

I am talking to those who feel entitled to getting help because others are getting help from Nigerians. I told two of those veterans to not come out and beg for help so that when they are in dire need, they wouldn’t lack helpers.

Let only those who are sick, seek help, but those who are healthy, they should stop coming out to beg”.

Taking to her comment section, Wumi Toriola concurred with her as she noted how many of the veterans were spoiling the industry’s image.

Describing Nollywood as an honorable profession, Wumi stated that she feeds and makes a living from acting.

“Let the sick seek help, let casual beggars not spoil the platform, our job is honorable. I feed and make a living from this.

May your strength be renewed like an eagle, your voice is loud enough”.

Her response didn’t sit well with a troll who rained insults on her, and the two traded words online.

Taking a swipe at her, the troll noted how the movie star, is accustomed to raining curses on people as he poked fun at her failed marriage.

Calling her a prost!tute, he took a dig at her over her crashed marriage.

“Nah curse allow you leave your husband ashiere celebrity.

Make I unfollow you first you be oloriburuku celebrity Nollywood prost!tute”.

Wumi Toriola replied, “The same prostitution your mother did and failed. Shows how unproductive your entire being is. On this I call ur life a wrap”.
